I finished my last day at my old job today. I had been there for about 7 1/2 years, so it was pretty surreal. I think about how sentimental I felt about graduating from high school and college and that was just over half the time I was at this job. Granted that graduations signify big life changes and my new job probably won't be as dramatic of a change, but I do feel a bit justified in feeling sentimental. I gladly surrendered my blackberry, laptop, employee id, parking pass, and secure id, but I feel strangely naked without those things - even though I'll probably get a whole new set at my new job tomorrow.
I haven't even come close to facing up to the fact that I will no longer see my good work friends every day. I didn't necessarily see them all every day especially if we weren't working on a project together, but it was nice to know they were just around the corner in the cubicle maze or on the other end of an online chat. It's comforting knowing that I'll see my good work girlfriends at book club in just a few days. We're also starting up a knitting club which I'm really looking forward to. Still, I know that despite many suggestions that we meet up for lunch halfway between jobs, there are coworkers (former coworkers now) that I probably won't see again.
In spite of all that, I'm still looking forward to this new job - new coworkers, new projects, new challenges. First days are never that fun though - at least not for me - trying to remember everyone's names and make a good first impression. It will be nice once I've had a few weeks to adjust.
Wish me luck!
p.s. Just to keep this post somewhat craft oriented, these are the sweaters I want to knit:
Tea Leaves Cardigan - from Madeline Tosh (already started this one - I'm almost at the point where you divide for the sleeves - can't wait - not crazy about having almost 400 stitches on my needles.)
Norah Gaughan Eastlake (I bought the book this weekend at Yard Goods Center in Waterville while my oldest son was at a math meet nearby.)
Loppem (from the same book. I'm trying to decide if I just like this one because I wouldn't have to knit sleeves.)
