I'm here in sunny, (relatively) warm Arizona. I've been working a lot but still managing to fit in a few other things. My conference starts in earnest tomorrow, so that will change. So far, (aside from the work), I've managed to visit my cousins and aunt who I hardly ever see, go out to eat three times, shop a bit, get my hair and eyebrows done, walk/run on the treadmill once, and read a book (that was on the plane). Amazing what you can accomplish with no kids. Oh yeah and no sewing machine.
I did make these luggage tags before I left when I was supposed to be packing.
I've never had proper luggage tags before, so I'm quite happy with these. No more filling out those floppy little paper tags when I get to the airport. I loosely followed this tutorial.
In case you're curious, here's where I've eaten so far:
Frank & Lupe's - awesome! We filled up on chips and salsa and queso dip, so I was too full to eat by the time my meal came. I ended up only having a few bites of my shredded beef blue corn flautas, but they were delicious. I woke up the next morning wishing I could have eaten more.
Bandera's - again awesome! They have these super skinny little fries that were delicious. I had the crispy chicken sandwich that had some kind of sauce on it that was sort of subtle but really yummy. My only complaint was that I had a water glass about the size of a Dixie cup. I wouldn't have known this if it weren't for my cousin, but Chris Young, the centerfielder for the Diamondbacks was sitting two booths over from us. My cousin's son went and politely got his autograph after he was done eating. It was cute.
Los Olivos - not bad. The guy who did my hair said this was even better and more authentic than Frank & Lupe's. I'm not a Mexican food expert, but I disagree. When the queso dip is orange cheese, I have to knock of some authenticity points. I really liked their salsa and the food was definitely as good as any I've had at home - just not as good as Frank & Lupe's.
And because it was near our bus stop, I picked up a cupcake from Sprinkles (which is apparently a famous cupcake place). I'm aware of the popularity of cupcakes these days, so I had to try one out. Not that I've never had a cupcake before, but it was definitely pre cupcake craze. I was way too full from lunch, and I'm still full, so I'm saving my cupcake for breakfast've only had one two three bites. It IS really good.
And just so you don't think I'm not a normal person - getting my hair and eyebrows done is not as every day of a thing as I make it sound. The hair was the first time in a year or so, and I've only ever had my eyebrows done once. I like the look. I feel like a grown up now.
