I'm really fickle when it comes to sewing projects. I like to take an immediate fork in the road when I get inspired by something comes across Instagram or my blog feed. That said, I have a pile of fabric and patterns from when that happened and then something else came along before I had a chance to follow through on the initial inspiration.
Most of my 2018 Make 9 sewing goals are an attempt to take advantage of that stockpile, but I reserve the right to change my mind. :)
1. Cheyenne Tunic x 2. This is at the top of my list. I have a cute mustard-colored double-gauze fabric that's going to be my test-sew/muslin then some wool plaid from Mood fabric that I hope will cure my jealousy of my husband's Pendleton button down shirts. I think both will look great under my Dark & Stormy cardigan.
2. Arccos Underwear. I bought a kit last summer to make 2 pairs out of navy blue fabric. I was nervous to use the nice fabric, so I made a test pair out of some leftover knit fabric. They were easy, and they're really comfortable. I'm ready now.
3. Range Backpack. I've already made this pattern twice, and I love it. I haven't quite mastered a perfect topstitch on my machine with waxed canvas, but I'm willing to keep trying. I have some ideas for some tweaks like built-in laptop padding and a pocket for my coffee cup.
4. Anise Jacket. I spent some time last summer collecting up the fabric and lining for this jacket. I'm not sure I still love it, so this is a stretch for 2018. I also still need to find weft interfacing.
5. Lander Pants. It seems like everyone has been making these. I love them. I even have the clogs to match. I've always been a fan of bellbottoms but even more so after watching The Deuce this year. I'm not sure they're right for my body, so they're also a stretch for 2018.
6. Button Backed Tank. Speaking of watching TV, there was an episode of The Crown where Margaret is wearing a simple, classic, button-backed tank that made me want to try to duplicate it. I can't find an image on-line to show the exact one from the show. I don't have a specific pattern in mind for this, but I feel like the Colette Laurel dress-as-shirt could work well for this.
7. Lark T. I fell in love with long-sleeved wool t-shirts a few years ago. I wear them running. I wear them to bed. I wear them to work under everything. It's freakin' cold here! I've already made a few (not of wool yet) on my regular machine, but I'm hoping to invest in a serger this year.
8. Linden Sweatshirt. I made one of these this summer out of insignificant fabric from JoAnn, and I just loved it. I tried making a super small version for my 10-year-old, but the neck ended up being too big. Something to try again at some point. Anyway, I have some wool jersey for one for me and some millenial pink for one for my older daughter.
9. Chambray Shirt. I did a test run of the Granville shirt last summer out of denim colored linen, and I love it, but it seems weird to wear a denim color with jeans which is what I wear all the time. What does everyone else do? I don't know what I would wear if not jeans. If I get it right, I think it will be perfect under my off-white Merrifield sweater.
I better get started. Happy New Year!
